Chicago Gateway Green

CNP Premium Member Since Oct 28, 2011

A Chicago-based non-profit organization founded in 1986 to green and beautify Chicago's expressways, gateways, and neighborhoods. Its work is highly visible in communities across the city of Chicago and its plantings improve the environment and quality of life for millions of residents and visitors. The organization has broad support across the region’s business and civic community and serves as a model for effective public-private partnerships focused on urban greening and livability. Products: The Expressway Partnership Program, in conjunction with the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois, is a public-private partnership established in 1999 to install and maintain sustainable landscapes along each of Chicago’s major expressways and other important transit routes. The Tree Partnership Program is a large-scale volunteer tree planting initiative established in 2008 to plant and maintain neighborhood tree groves throughout Chicago along major transportation corridors and roadways. The Tree Partnership Program also has a strong focus on educating and engaging local communities in stewardship of Chicago’s urban forest. The International Sculpture Program, established in 1996, further enhances gateways in and out of Chicago by installing public art from artists representing Chicago’s sister cities along the organization's expressway sites.
