Family Matters is a leadership development and community building nonprofit organization in the North Of Howard, Rogers Park Community. We uniquely address the challenges facing urban youth and families through our emphasis on three Principles of Leadership: embracing peaceful conflict resolution; harnessing the power of choices and consequences; and utilizing positive thinking and language. Our Family Connections program for children (ages 5 –12) and their families, and our Community Tutoring program focus on academic achievement and leadership development in a safe after-school environment. Our teen boys and teen girls programs focus on shared leadership, academic achievement, exploration of the arts, health and fitness, and entrepreneurial experience Family Matters has a phenomenal professional staff and a network of over 325 volunteers. We are very excited about our Post Secondary Readiness initiative, focusing on creating clear pathways for life after high-school, weather it is college, work or military; we will explore all options and support students in attaining those goals.We have been a safe second home to children and families for the past 23 years.
