Animal Protective Association’s Harmony House for Cats is a cageless,no-kill shelter, dedicated to rescuing and placing injured and abandoned cats. We are so excited to share the news about the new shelter under construction for the cats of Harmony House. Designed to be Net-Zero Energy and concurrently pursuing LEED-NC Platinum certification, it is slated to be the first Net-Zero Energy commercial building in the City of Chicago, and possibly the State of Illinois. (The term Net-Zero Energy means that the amount of energy provided by on-site renewable energy sources over the course of one year is equal or greater than the amount of energy used by the building.) We have already broken ground on our new shelter at 2914 N. Elston in Chicago, and estimate that the building will be completed by November 2011. The new one-story 7085 square-foot shelter is a state-of-the-art facility comprised of open office, huge cat playrooms, adoption areas, an expanded medical ward, and suites for cats with special needs. |
